It was a nice and relaxed monday evening when Naanook and I decided to take another try in expanding our roams to low-sec. In earlier attempts we either got blown or returned safely to Rens, but without the highly anticipated kill. Over and over again we had to refuse our crews to paint any low-sec killmarks on the fuselages of our Rifters.

A few days ago the stereotypic monotony of scanning and warping through the belts without receiving a reward would finally come to an end. We safely arrived at our favourite scanning spot in Amamake when local was filled with loads of experienced capsuleers. But also several young pilots were trying their luck as well (like us). Setting the scanner to 360° we detected several frigs in the system, the favourite prey for our wolfpack. Narrowing down the scanning cone, we were able to track a Rifter at Amamake VI, Belt 3. Since Naanook did a nice scouting-job before it was on me to hop into the system to try a nice little tackle manouver on our potential opponent. Slowly my senses returned after the exhausting jump and I could feel the presence of the other frigate. Just 30km away the enemy Rifter approached my position. And so did I. Full throttle and afterburner engaged I burnt in his direction, informing Naanook of the current situation. “I guess he is looking for a fight, mate! Get ready to warp on me!” Spiralling in, I targeted his hull and engaged my autocannons when I arrived at a comfortable orbit of about 1000m. His guns answered my declaration of war and we slowely chew through each others shields.

Naanook was already on his way, when all of a sudden a strange feeling overwhelmed me. The stars began to flicker and my consciousness began to fade. With a bang I was drawn into a parallel universe that I usually experience when I lay asleep in my hangar dreaming. But now I was in the midst of a fight. Not the best situation to lose control over your mind and body. When I regained consciusness, I realized that I was sitting in a darkened room facing a prehistoric monitor. One of those models, commonly used in the beginning of the 21st century. The weird thing was: I could still hear Naanook via the intercom yelling at me. He arrived at the battlefield just to discover my Rifter not being under my control anymore. Without any hesitation he instantly engaged the opposing Rifter. While I struggled to find my way back to Amamake, he informed me about another Rifter entering the belt. He got targeted and pounded by several rounds of EMP S Charges, but the second Rifter couldn’t do too much damage. Bravehearted Naanook was able to survive both of them. Still….

I had a closer look at the monitor I was facing and discovered a small button called “login”. Well I guess I don’t have any other option: I firmly pressed the button. With a remarkable delay I suddenly found myself back in my Rifter. But where was Naanook and the two enemies? Still trying to figure out what happened, the engines of my ship went back on with a roar. Somehow my computer autobookmarked the scene of event before and warped me directly into the midst of a raging duel. Kinski II, my little Rifter had suffered severe structural damage when I was absent, but that wouldn’t discourage me from attacking the second enemy pilot. Unfortunately we forgot to tackle the guy. He warped out.

“F***!” I thought. “Still no kill!” But then … Naanook had a nice surprise for me: It seemed like I laid the final blow on the capsuleer frigate that I initially tackled. My ship (and Naanook of course) did a brillant job while I was floating around in this strange parallel universe called Real Life! Finally we had our first kill in low-sec.

A mail to our crews was sent, ordering them to prepare everything to engrave this killmark into our Rifter’s fuselages. Slowly our experience grows in this universe called New Eden! Fly reckless capsuleers and watch out for the Order Of IX!

Hello New Eden! I’m Nova, Nova Scottia – I began my career in New Eden with can-flipping and dueling around the Brutor Tribe Treasury in the end of May 2009. I guess for a total Noob I was quite successful, as I won 9 fights in a row never losing a single ship! Until that fateful day in Amamake…

Me and my corp-mate Naanook formed a small wolfpack with two Rifters to look for adventures in low-sec. We programmed our nav-computers with a straight course to Amamake to improve our experience and to finally get our first killing-job in low-sec done. As we travelled through Amamake before, we already had a comfortable safe-spot that was our initial destination once through the stargate.

There we started scanning the belts. Directional scanning wasn’t our second nature yet, but after a while we were quite comfortable with this extremely helpful tool. Each of us had separate belts to scan and Naanook steadily jumped to the potential targets to see if it was worth the risk of an engagement. I was in the midst of a jump, when he informed me of a Thrasher sitting in a belt. A pirate with a nice flashy-red bar in our overview. As I knew that a thrasher is bluilt to kiss your little frig until it bleeds, I first hesitated to engage this slightly more experienced pilot. Come on we are two reckless Rifter pilots! Let’s go for it!

And as we rescanned the system over and over again, resulting in no viable targets we made an effort to attack the Minmatar destroyer. We jumped to the belt within 100 km and directly engaged the Thrasher, that was about 130 km away. A huge mistake!

We closed on in quite quickly, especially because the pilot obviously had an MWD fitted but neither of us in our little wolfpack had. This should have alarmed us, but when you already tasted the sweet blood of success you can be blinded by the light. So when we were at about 20 km, the first volleys would hit my Rifter’s shield and I got warp-disrupted.
“What’s happening? Nannook can you close in on that guy?” I yelled into my comm, but Naanook had the same problem. The Thrasher perfectly kept the distance of 20 km. We got kited and the artillery cannons slowly bit through my shield and armor. Realising that my doom is inevitable and fleeing is no option, I ordered Naanook to retreat to our safe-spot. At least one of us little noobies should survive! When he had me in half structure I steadily hit the warp button, so at least my Pod was still intact when it unfolded out of that unglorious blaze that once was my Rifter.

After that incident we discussed what could have been a better strategy to nail that guy down. I looked at his BattleClinic killboard and finally realised that his loadout is perfectly selected for frigate-killing, which he does regularly. I should have looked at it BEFORE the fight. Lesson learned!

Now dear readers, we would be quite thankful if you have any suggestions on how to win such an engagement. Crucial would be to get under his guns as he fitted artillery. We came to this solution: I should have loaded a MWD, trying to kite him away. When I reached a distance of 150 km to his position, hitting warp to quickly jump to get under his guns and in web range. After that my mate could have warped in to join the frag-fest! Got any suggestions? We are open for any help my dear fellow capsuleers out there in New Eden space…

Well in the end it was another lesson that told us, that gathering intel is a crucial part of the fight. And next time it will be done before the duel, as it has slightly more effect on the situation. Fly safe New Eden. Loads of hugs and kisses from Nova!

I was in such a rage that I had to take a long walk through the corridors of the Brutor Tribe Treasury in Rens recently. Repeatedly cursing an enemy corporation that was the root of all my anger, I finally entered my favourite pub where I tried to drown my bad mood with some excellent Bavarian Augustiner beer that has exclusively been imported from good ole mother Earth.

But it wasn’t until yesterday that my feelings changed from wrath and depression to triumph! So why have I been in such a rage you might ask? Well I was hanging out just in front of Rens, dropping a can to have a fair 1 on 1 frigate fight. And I didn’t have to wait too long until a member of the Global Gang Bangers took my little rocket. Hmmm a Punisher. This is the perfect situation to try out a loadout that Wensley from the Tuskers told me to use for such a situation. After I targeted the Puni we instantly let our guns roar in a fierce duel, constantly orbiting each other. As I’ve foreseen it, the Punisher couldn’t really track me well and my Barrage S ate through this thick armor. It didn’t take too long and I had him in half structure, while I still had half armor. When….

…all of a sudden his armor increased to 100% in the blink of an eye and three pilots on the overview turned flashy red. Oh nooo! Not again! Some remote-repairers of his gang helped him as he probably couldn’t stand the shame to get shot by a three month old character with the better loadout. I survived another minute and tried to kite away, but with no luck. The last thing I heard was the deafening explosion of my lovely little Rifter. What a shame for him! And he didn’t realise that this was a really lousy tactic for a 1 on 1 fight. So after I docked my Pod, I had to walk through the station in order to calm down. Otherwise I wouldn’t have a chance to find the tiniest bit of sleep.

But the story wasn’t over yet. Three days passed and I returned to the Treasury after joining some friends, to have a really nice BBQ in New Bavaria. This is a nice recreation of the original country in Rens IV. It’s really worth a travel if you have some leisure-time between your fights! Did I mention that we have New Eden’s most beautiful girls, who eagerly satisfy our demand for fresh grilled meat? I even met a friend from New Berlin, Basti of Knorkator with whome I had a nice session playing some old Beatles songs (no fiction )

So when I approached the Treasury I saw some Gang Bangers hanging out there. Although I swore not to engage them anymore due to their foul tactics, the few beers I had resulted in me watching my little can rotating next to my Rifter. First a GGB in a hurri took it and all my rage would start to loom again. I did some smack talk about their cowardice in the local channel. But there is no use in such a behaviour. I’m sorry for that, I learnt that not all of the them are cowards.

To make a long story short: I dropped another can after Matt Deamon of the GGBs convoed me. He affirmed, that he was up for a fair fight. As I still didn’t really trust the situation, I told him to meet at the TransStellar. He agreed and we programmed our navigation computers to warp to our more or less private battleground. So let the games begin. The routine of targeting and programming a comfortable orbit initiated what was to become the longest fight I had to date. As he wasn’t able to track my Rifter, I never was in danger of losing my armor. But his Tungsten hardened armor was quite hard to break as well. When I realised that it wouldn’t take too long until I was running out of ammo and I urgently had to go to the toilet, I tried to steal away. Which perfectly worked as he didn’t scram me to safe his cap. So after reloading and the two of us shaking hands at the TransStellar toilet complex (guess he had some pints as well), we undocked to finish what we started. I had loads of ammo and I needed all of it. And like I previously experienced, it took me quite a while to eat through his armor again. Even his structure was hard to break. But finally I got my revenge on the Global Gang Bangers! The whole incident lasted about 30 minutes. A time of constant adrenaline rush. Beautiful!

After having a nice talk I again apologized for my rude words in local. We headed back to the Treasury and I invited Matt to my favourite pub to have a nice talk about loadouts, the life and everything. Big thanks go out to Matt Deamon for a very challenging and fair frigate-fight and Wensley for his invaluable suggestions! Fly safe New Edeners!
